My first cake pops made from making a cake in a pan, cutting it up, and adding frosting. Would definitely do this again- just takes time. It is a lot of fun doing it this way because you can create any kind of shape you want, but it does add another step I feel like.
Having made these now there are a couple things I would do differently. I thought it would be more "featherlike" if I made the black feathers on the top of the heads of the yellow and white birds with sprinkles, but this was not a good idea. They are too skinny and break off- in the future I would use black licorice.
Another thing- the blue birds- I needed to put the candy inside and then dip the whole thing in the blue chocolate so everything is not on the outside and visible, but first time is a learning experience for everyone.
I used a french vanilla cake because a lot of these had a lighter icing color. I actually thought the cake tasted really good. I was nervous that it wouldn't taste that great because I had never made this type of cake pop, but I actually think it tastes better than the ones I make in the Bake Pop pan.
Any questions? Please comment :)
